Our signature clutch, hand made from vintage 'obi': the sash worn with kimono at formal occasions.
A classical bold pattern of silver 'tsuru' crane on dark blue, almost purple silk, a motif that frequently appears on wedding kimono as it represents hope, longevity and good fortune, because of its fabled life span of a thousand years. It also represents fidelity, as Japanese cranes are known to pair for life.
The wavy lines are Tatewaku, which are a popular choice on fabric designs: they represent steam rising from the earth in the springtime.
This vintage Fukuro Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan. It is approximately 30 to 40 years old, and in excellent condition.
Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
