This kimono is covered with a geometric pattern of Matsu: the pine tree, known for it’s strength. The Samurai revered this plant as they considered the pointed pine needles a symbol of protection.
The fabric is a silk woven with a pattern of 'tsuyushiba ', a repeating pattern of crescent shaped motifs which symbolise Dew Drops on Grass. It means freshness and so is most commonly found on summer kimono.
This vintage kimono was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan. It is approximately 30 years old.
Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
