A beautiful ‘kiku’ unfurls it’s bright orange petals across this deep red ob.i Kiku, the Chrysanthemum is the Flower of the Imperial House and and often used icon of Japan itself (it features on Japanese passports).
This obi is heavily embroidered with shades of silver and gold: it is Nishijin style of weave, a technique developed in an area of Kyoto around 1000 years ago.
This vintage Fukuro Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan. It is approximately 30 -40 years old, and in excellent condition.
