Our signature clutch, hand made from vintage 'obi': the sash worn with kimono at formal occasions.
A classical bold pattern of deer red 'sensu' and golden 'tsuru' crane. Sense are the fans used in traditional dance performances and also represent prosperity as they grow in size when opened up. The crane motif frequently appears on wedding kimono as it represents hope, longevity and good fortune, because of its fabled life span of a thousand years. It also represents fidelity, as Japanese cranes are known to pair for life.
There are also metallic pastel shade threads used in the wing area of this design.
This vintage Fukuro Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan. It is approximately 30 to 40 years old, and in excellent condition.
Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
