Our signature clutch, hand made from vintage 'obi': the sash worn with kimono. The Nagoya obi is less formal and is more often worn 'everyday'.
A beautiful ‘kiku’ unfurls it’s bright orange petals across this nagoya obi. Kiku, the Chrysanthemum is the Flower of the Imperial House and and often used icon of Japan itself (it features on Japanese passports). It represents rejuvenation and longevity.
This obi is heavily embroidered with poppy red threads : it is Nishijin style of weave, a technique developed in an area of Kyoto around 1000 years ago.
This vintage Nagoya Obi was sourced from the Osaka area of Japan. It is approximately 30 -40 years old, and in excellent condition.
Handmade by self help groups in Cambodia.
